The “Hoernle” – Crest of the 260th Infantry Division
On 31st May 1940 by divisional order all vehicles had to carry a new distinctive mark. That was necessary to differ the vehicles when they used the same advance routes.
The “Hoernle” was chosen, a modification of the deer antlers found in the royal blazonry of Wuerttemberg.
Chaos on the Road – Units needed a crest
It had to be put on all vehicles of the division.
On 19th December 1942, the 12th army corps gave orders for new symbols, the popular “Hoernle” disappeared.
